The Target
Woodland, a project located in Virginia, USA, involved the development of a comprehensive architectural BIM model based on existing as-built conditions. Point cloud data was used to accurately capture the building geometry and site conditions, forming the foundation of the BIM process. The architectural model was developed directly from the 3D scan and progressed through the design development phase, including walls, slabs, structure, ceilings, cores, and key building systems. BIM coordination and clash detection were conducted across architectural, structural, and MEP disciplines, supporting early issue resolution and improved coordination. This scan-based BIM approach reduced assumptions, minimized RFIs, and enabled more accurate and informed decision-making ahead of the construction documentation phase.
